Emily’s 4th-grade students have been spending the semester learning about fossil fuels and renewable energy. They are currently in the second phase of their class projects, where they are starting to prepare all of the information for their tri-fold boards, using their paraphrasing, summarizing, and synthesizing skills from their English Language Arts learnings. They are also researching images and designing the layout of their boards.

Hello parents,
We have been working on a renewable energy project where we talk about a renewable energy source. Every group got a set of questions to answer and talk about. We are right now at step 2. Step 2 is where we take all our research and put it on a tri-fold with our group. My group – solar energy – has been working on checking our questions and printing it all up so we can start with the tri-fold and we are about to finish a drawing of the sun. I have learned that solar panels are still working even when you don’t see the sun. I also learned that in California solar is less expensive than in any other state. We are doing a survey of Yavneh students asking how many have solar panels installed on their roofs. The cost for solar panels for the last 10 years have decreased by 89%. If you install solar panels the government will reward you with tax credit. I learned that if you install solar panels each kilowatt increases the value of your house by $6000. Me, Jonathan and Ella have been working very hard on our solar energy project. This project is fun and my group is cooperative.
