Ms. Kohn’s 3rd-grade class recently completed an out-of-this-world project on the planets. This was their first major research endeavor, teaching them valuable skills like research techniques, note-taking, drafting, and presenting. They showcased their newfound knowledge in a unique way by presenting their findings as if they were contestants on a game show, complete with multiple-choice questions for their audience.
The project was not only a learning experience but also a chance to enhance their oral presentation skills. Instead of simply reading off their posters, students made their presentations interactive and engaging. This aligns perfectly with our integrated STEAM curriculum, emphasizing creativity and active learning.
Building on their planetary studies, students will now embark on an “alien project” in STEAM class with Morah Vanina. Each student will create an alien that could inhabit the planet they researched. They must design their alien with three specific adaptations suited to their planet’s environment, fostering both imagination and scientific thinking.
In the coming weeks, the class will also explore the wonders of the Solar System, delving into the study of stars and constellations. Stay tuned for more updates on our stellar adventures in 3rd grade!
